I've been browsing through the website over at www.productivity501.com recently. I came in contact with it when I was asked to do a little write up at another blog on their iPod Shuffle giveaway, and was interested to see what type of site they have. As far as I am concerned, any site that has an iPod Shuffle giveaway isn't all bad. It's a smart gift to give to contest winners, because the iPod Shuffle is such a handy little gadget. So, with that in mind, I popped on over to have a look and see what they have going on over at Productivity 501.
The first thing I came across was this game/riddle and I groaned. It reminded me of the games I used to have to play in school in the "gifted program." I remember being told that we were in a boat with 7 people, and only 6 were allowed to stay. One had to get thrown to the sharks. And whoever went over was sure to die. The teacher refused to let us get away with saying we'd all 7 stay and try our luck (still what I'd do). So, when I first saw this climb up the ladder thing at Productivity 501, I thought it was another one of those sorts of games. But I swallowed the ill feelings and kept reading. And it was alright -- this one is about how to save all of those trapped in the cave. That's the sort of thing I like, rather than trying to determine who is more or less valuable than the others. The logic of the game included in the link makes sense to me too, even though it would be hard to go with it in real life. It's hard to put the weakest link last, when in the real situation. I don't know if I could do it. But then, that isn't really the application being made in the article. Rather, it is about doing things in the right order and at the right time. That I do like and agree with, and do find it practical.
I also popped in to look at The Most for Your Minute. This is an article I can really relate to, and that really is a good reminder for me. I like how it spoke about doing a few things and doing them well. And more, about not getting distracted by the abundance of things going on around us. That's hard for me -- I have a lot of interests, and can easily pursue too many things, letting them keep me busy but not productive.
It looks to me like Productivity 501 is a site worth visiting and reading through the articles there... even the ones that make you groan at first sight. I've bookmarked it, and will be back.
